The Columns is a hotel, yes, but the bar and porch are the civic use case. Sit outside if the weather is humane, inside if the room calls to you, and let St. Charles Avenue do the visual work.

This is not the bar for a technical cocktail pilgrimage. It is the bar for timing: late afternoon, early evening, before dinner Uptown, after a Garden District walk, whenever the streetcar sliding past makes the city feel temporarily arranged for you.

Order simply and linger. The porch is the feature, and the feature is very good.
