New Orleans Jazz Museum
A music-history stop at the Old U.S. Mint, placed exactly where the Quarter meets Frenchmen.
French Quarter
The New Orleans Jazz Museum occupies the Old U.S. Mint at the foot of Esplanade, which gives it one of the best locations in the city for understanding how the music moved between neighborhoods, streets, and institutions.
The exhibits are useful, but the live programming is the reason to check the calendar before you go. A daytime performance here can be a gentler entry into the music than a late Frenchmen night.
Pair it with the lower Quarter, the Marigny, or a walk down Esplanade. The building sits at a hinge point, and the visit is better if you treat it that way.
