Domilise's Po-Boys

Uptown

Annunciation Street in a residential pocket of Uptown, in a building so unassuming you'll walk past it the first time. Operated by the same family for over a century, with the current generation working the line their grandparents worked. There is a Budweiser sign in the window. There is no website worth visiting.

The shrimp po-boy, fully dressed, is the canonical order — fried to the second, on bread from Leidenfrost like everyone good uses, mayo and lettuce and tomato and pickles. The roast beef is gravy-heavy and excellent. Order at the counter, pay in cash if you can, grab a Barq's from the cooler.

Fifteen seats inside, no reservations, lunch only, closed Sunday. A cab Uptown — not walking distance from anywhere a tourist usually is, which is part of why it remains what it is.
