Soniat House

French Quarter

On the residential end of Chartres Street, Soniat House does what almost no Quarter hotel does: it puts you inside the architecture without the costume. The courtyards are real courtyards. The antiques are antiques. Breakfast — homemade biscuits with strawberry preserves, served in your room or in the courtyard — is the small luxury that defines the place.

Rooms vary considerably; the suites in the main building are the prize, but a standard room in one of the cottages is the better value if you don't need square footage. No restaurant, no spa, no concierge desk that tries hard. The honor bar in the parlor is the social scene such as it is.

For travelers who want to live in the Quarter for a few days rather than visit it.
