Mid-City & Bayou St. John
Streetcars, po-boys, City Park, and the bayou-side version of a New Orleans afternoon.
Mid-City is where New Orleans becomes easier to breathe. The Canal streetcar, Bayou St. John, City Park, the cemeteries, Parkway, Liuzza's by the Track, and neighborhood bars all sit in a loose constellation that rewards unhurried movement.
The bayou gives the area its best mood: open sky, bikes, kayaks, dog walkers, and the sense that the city has turned sideways toward water again. City Park can carry a whole afternoon; a po-boy can make it a complete one.
Use Mid-City when the Quarter has become too tight. It is not an escape from New Orleans, just another grammar of it.
