Come here for the WWII Museum, Ogden, Pêche, Cochon, Herbsaint, Compère Lapin, the theaters, and hotels that let you walk in three directions. The neighborhood is especially strong for travelers who want the Quarter nearby but not under the pillow.
It is a practical base and a real dining district. That combination matters more than postcard charm.
